William Kurelek
While we're on the subject of album artwork. One of my favorites, and probably most unusual, was the cover art for Van Halens' 'Fair Warning'. The cover consisted of details from William Kurelek 'The Maze'. As a young man, he spent time in a psychiatric hospital. The Maze was the result, with the painting depicting his fears and torments:
