Some new music!

On a rainy friday, for any of those looking for new stuff for your workday listening pleasure, check these out:

This is actually back from 1994. It was Kurts show on KZSU in Palo Alto. This was pretty classic figuring it features a very young Wu-Tang on their first tour on the west coast.

Listen here!

This is another great Mix by none other than the man called Dj Rhettmatic!

Listen here!

Here's the evolution of this page, which, I've been looking forward to doing since the beginning of the book. It's the part in the story where things become a bit surreal

Why is Kemo Sabe so great?

Last Saturday, on my whirlwind tour of the Bay Area, I got a chance to see a friend of mines band, Kemo Sabe, at the Cafe Du Noir. They headlined at a Thanksgiving show, and, I must say, played a pretty great show.

They play a style of music which could be described as 'punk-grass' or, as this quote describes them:

"Next time you're driving down highway 1 in California in a '69 convertible Jaguar, put on Kemo Sabe, it will all make sense - unlike this analogy.

This might be in bad taste, but I couldn't resist.

Lee Maverick Band

LMB is a hillbilly/punk band from the Bay Area. Their sets usually consist of brutalized country standards, as well as some rock, punk and other classics. Most of their shows end up with singer Tom Collins getting himself pretty injured.

I put a print together of characters of the group, and even have a quick animated spot included in the current TFU reel.

Pranksters

A nice diversion lately has been working with the folks at Comedy.com. They're putting together some apps for Facebook. One of which is a feature to play pranks on friends. So, I put together a bunch of illustrations, and, have had a blast thinking of ideas.

See if you can guess these.

This is one that was obviously done about 3 months ago, but, figured I'd post it anyways. I selected 7 or 8 different pages from the entire book to spread out the novice-ness of my drawing abilities. As a project of this scope goes on, you become a little more comfortable with your hands. One thing you want to avoid is for a gradual change in art quality to be apparent.

The New Print

This is a detail from the latest set of characters in a new print. My next challenge is finding a new printer that can output the high quality transparencies I was doing before. Then I can finally get this guy done.

Lunky

One character from the book who's been interesting to draw is Lunky. He's one of the villains bodyguards, and is involved in a subway chase scene that's sort of the the centerpiece to the story.

He's one of the tough characters who maybe has the mind of a 12 year-old. Guys like that always scared me the most, because it seemed like they had a lot less to lose. The type of character who if you were on his good side was forever loyal, but, in a fight, would beat you unconscious.

The body type was a lot like the model's I did for the Biz Markie animation.

Here's an example of the progress of a page, just with finished pencils. As I've mentioned before, this is mostly the pencil/plotting step in the book. The inks and bubbles will come later, and, that's when the real gratification/frustration will happen. The inks are when you wake up in the middle of the night, fix a panel that doesn't look right.

Soon, I'll probably do a couple test ink and word pages, to get a look determined. The pencils are really the groundwork, and a great chance to explore possibilities regarding layout and story.

Badd Santa

So, annoying as any reference to the upcoming Christmas season might be, here's the promo that was just created for the upcoming Stones Throw/ Urban Outfitters Christmas LP 'Badd Santa' It's actually a great record complete with James Brown, Vince Guaraldi, Free Design, and many others.

This being a promotional item, things need to be done a couple months advance of any holiday. So, just pretend it was for last Christmas.
