There's about 10 other filmmakers I'd like to see this guy makes these for but check it out. Designed by my man Muller!

Nineteen Eighty Five Volume 3 Review | shelfabuse.com
Anyone unfortunate enough to reach the age of thirty will tell you that your taste in fashion and music is forged during your teenage years and early twenties. After that, your passions either stay the same or, for the majority, are gradually diminished by the combined forces of responsibility, conformity...

Tom Petty- Runnin' Down A Dream
I just came across this one. Very stylized animation by Jim Lenahan who was bascially the designer of all of their live shows and directed a big chunk of their music videos:
It's not hard to see the Winsor McCay influence in these, and for it's time, it's a great experimental throwback to some of the first animation ever shot:

French Guys
A couple of months ago, Sébastien Bauer & Lucas Blaya came by the house to shoot some questions, primarily about my animated videos for a doc about Stones Throw. Some months later, looks like it's coming together:

Thumbnailed pages of a long since project. Not sure if these are in order but, there seems to be hundreds of these things:

Skecthbook 8
Whenever I talk to budding illustrators, I'm always telling about the importance of having a sketchbook handy at all times. I have a bunch of them that are filled with random sketches, ideas, inane thoughts, and they really end up being a visual journal. One that the owner would only be able to interpret. So, in the pages of this here blog, I'll be posting random pages I've had over the years.

Shirt Musings
Shirt ideas I've dreamt of but never realized. I probably have a new one of these a week, but, here's some of them of note:

Start Writing
I've just started outlining the next project I'm writing, which now is mostly bits and pieces written on napkins, and text messages I've made to myself. One of the funnest parts of this is connecting the dots and making them into a cohesive storyline. This is also the most work depending on who you talk to.
Personally I get a rush of immediate excitement when I start writing the first bare lines on a page, and almost have to pry myself away from it.
While I've been tempted at times to join wiring groups or seminars, I always get the feeling that time spent in those activities would be time better spent actually writing, as opposed to discussing it. Also, the 'now's the time I'm supposed to write' mindblock can start.Which basically makes the whole undertaking seem more like a chore, rather than something you can truly enjoy doing.
Those initial ideas on a rough draft are the most important in my view. Most of them will get pared down and chopped in the final drafts, but they remain the core ideas behind the project, and the elements of the world I'm trying to visualize. I of course understand those ideas, but the end reader may not recognize them or even care for that matter. The next couple of weeks as render this chunk of text into something tangible and hopefully interesting should be challenging and also a lot of fun.

Logo Alteration
It's a common practice with most designers to alter or twist some of the most familiar symbols we see everyday. This act alone causes most to be taken a back, and recognize that somethings amiss. In the tradition of Wacky Packages, it's somewhat of a small revolutionary act. Here's a couple I made that were eventually printed onto shirts.
The GE logos subtle benign swastika is made much more pronounced, and the Enron's alteration should be obvious.

Captain Morgan's BracketMaster
A series of titles just completed for a Captain Morgan's sponsored series of videos. Pretty basic scheme using the 'bracket' as an element. A sort of Maxim Magazine girly type theme, so, of course, swimsuit models were added.

Mad Magazines' Back Cover
Possibly one of the most memorable parts of the latest Mad Issue for me was the back cover. They were usually a biting critique or dark comment on some topic. Some of these literally etched into my young mind when I first saw these. Here's a couple more memorable ones:
And this one in particular stuck with me for a while. |
