Maxon released Cinema 4D Version 10 about a year and a half ago, and I've finally gotten around to poking around with it. It's pretty extensive, and, has lots of new features that make it almost a solid bonifide 3D production tool. While it's definitely a more lightweight program compared to Maya or Lightwave, it's becoming much more in depth, and now offers a pretty solid modeling interface as well.

Probably the industry standard for those of us in the Motion Graphics animation business. You can download a free demo here at
Maxons site.
